53TMINIR28 pairs the 53T handheld remote — three fan speeds and a light button — with a mini receiver built for compact ceiling boxes. Where a standard in-canopy receiver will not fit, this one will.

What it works with — and what it does not

Stated plainly, because a kit that turns up and does not fit costs everyone more than a kit that was not ordered.

Works with

Fans with a compact ceiling box. The receiver is 2.88 × 2.15 × 1 in — smaller than a standard receiver.
Major fan brands. Used with Hampton Bay, Hunter, Harbor Breeze, Westinghouse and Honeywell fans, among others.
Incandescent lamps on the light circuit — these both switch and dim.
Direct replacement for these remote kits: FAN-53T, FAN-28R, UC7078T, UJ7078T, FAN-35T and KUJCE9103.

Does not work with

Dimming LED or CFL lamps. Dimming is for incandescent lamps only. With LED or CFL lamps the remote switches the light on and off, but will not dim it.
Reverse / direction control. The kit does not support the fan's reverse function. Where a reverse switch exists on the fan housing, you keep using that.
Ceiling boxes with no room for the receiver. Measure first — 2.88 × 2.15 × 1 in still has to sit inside.
Fans with unusual motor or light wiring. Receivers are not universal — send us a photo of your setup and we will confirm before you order.

Installation

The kit is wired at the fan, not at the wall switch. If you are not confident working at a ceiling outlet, have a licensed electrician fit it.

Isolate the circuit

Switch off the breaker and confirm the fan is dead at the wall switch before touching any wiring.

Fit the receiver in the canopy

Connect the receiver between the house wiring and the fan wiring, matching by colour and using the printed guide supplied.

Match the DIP code and test

Open the remote's battery cover and set its DIP switches to the same code as the receiver, then test each speed and the light.

Measure first. The receiver needs to sit inside your fan's ceiling box without being pinched by the cover. Compare the 2.88 × 2.15 × 1 in receiver against the space you have.

Safety. Ceiling fans and their wiring operate at mains voltage. Isolate the circuit at the breaker before opening the canopy. Do not install a receiver that shows signs of heat damage, scorching or a burnt smell. Use the wire connecting nuts supplied with the kit.
